“Doing Our Own Thing” (DOOT) is a day of education and expression for 9th – 12th grade public, private, and homeschool students in Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore counties.

“Doing Our Own Thing” (DOOT) is a day of education and expression for 9th – 12th grade public, private, and homeschool students in Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore counties. Students enter their artwork in a visual art competition which allows them to attend intensive one-day workshops at The Armory Learning Arts Center on the first Friday of November. (*2018 date: Friday November 9th to accommodate the Alabama Art Education Association Fall Conference)

Workshops taught by some of the best professional artists from around the state allow students to hone their skills in art forms such as pottery, painting, mosaic, jewelry-making, drawing, folk art, sculpture and more. After a picnic style lunch and awards ceremony, the afternoon ends with a sidewalk chalk art drawing competition. Local celebrities judge the sidewalk chalk art and award trophies to the winners. Every year students, teachers, and instructors in the tri-county area look forward to this fun-filled day.
